Comeback Medvedev Wins Maiden Title in Over Two Years

Nineteen of Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been won on hard surfaces

A resurgent Medvedev claimed his maiden title for over two years with victory over opponent Moutet in the tournament title decider.

The Russian, a former number one, has experienced a challenging season, achieving just one win at the major tournaments and experiencing a meltdown at the US Open.

Medvedev's varied form on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his service game in especial - led to him dropping out of the top ten and eventually splitting with long-term mentor Gilles Cervara.

Now training with Johansson and his other coach, he has steadily improved in the last few weeks - culminating in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over opponent Corentin Moutet.

It is his maiden trophy since the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hard court from March of that year.

Victory also means the Russian has achieved twenty-one victories at twenty-one various tournaments.

"This marks the first occasion I'm at a competition with my both daughters together, so to get a title is particularly special," said ranked player the champion.

"This title is in tribute of my younger daughter my daughter, because the first title I won when my first daughter her name was delivered was for her."

The athlete, the past champion, had lost his past six championship matches, including in the German tournament in the past months.

Medvedev's defensive strategy and regular reactions on the tennis court had led observers to question if his ability to play at the elite level was finished.

But the player has implemented adjustments in the past month, striving to approach the net and perform assertively, backed up by an improved serve.

The champion recovered from a break down in the first set against the tricky Frenchman, taking four of the last five games to go ahead.

The pair traded break points in the following set before Moutet, striving for his initial tour championship, took control to push for a decider.

The opponent rescued four early-game chances in a competitive final set before the Russian broke to fifteen to secure the win.

Suitably, the winner clinched the title with a shot at the front of the court, with the Frenchman incapable to handle a volley after over two and a half hours.
